What you will need for this step
For one half:
- 1 x OLED screen
- 1 x 4-pin female socket
- Cutters
- Electrical tape (optional)
- Scrap cardboard
- Soldering iron and solder
Decide if you want to socket the OLED or solder directly to the PCB
Pros to socketing:
- OLED can be easily removed for troubleshooting or replacement
- the microcontroller under the OLED can be removed for troubleshooting or replacement
Cons:
- the OLED isn’t as secure. When turning the keyboard upside down I find the OLED will lever away from the microcontroller somewhat.
I recommend socketing unless you plan to travel with the keyboard (e.g. between work and home).
