Lay the PCBs side by side like a finished keyboard. Stick a piece of tape on the top side of both PCBs to help remember orientation.
The ProMicros can be flashed and tested before building the keyboard. It can save some time troubleshooting later knowing the ProMicros are working. After flashing, your computer should recognize the ProMicro as a keyboard. Only downside to flashing now is it requires a paperclip or diode leg to short the reset pin. This step is optional.
You can test a partially built keyboard. A minimum build would be, one half with:
